Commissions & Bonus Calculator
Why?
The finance team relied on manual commission and bonus calculations in Excel using Salesforce report exports. As commission rules change quarterly, the process became increasingly complex and susceptible to errors. Commercial AppExchange tools (e.g. Spiff) were evaluated but were not financially viable at the time.
What?
I designed a custom Salesforce application model (later named FinanceHub) and proposed to automate the commission and bonus calculation process. A series of working sessions with senior stakeholders helped clarify the underlying financial logic and identify repeatable versus quarter-specific commission rules.
How?
The legacy Excel workflow was reverse-engineered to capture all variables and dependencies. Based on this analysis, I designed a scalable model keeping micro services architecture in mind that could support future rule changes with minimal effort. The solution was implemented end-to-end using Apex, LWC, and Chart.js
Result
Commissions are now calculated automatically as soon as an Opportunity is Closed-won, as per the applicable quarterly commission terms. Bonus calculations run as scheduled jobs at quarter-end, eliminating manual intervention and improving overall accuracy.
Reflection
Designing, Building and Delivering this application as a product displayed the value of translating complex business logic into maintainable and extensible technical models. Stakeholders gained confidence on internal builds that are tailored bespoke for the business and avoid exuberant costs of AppExchange products that may or may not serve the actual problem at hand.
Custom Sales Application
Why?
Peninsula’s Field Sales Managers are issued iPads and iPhones to help them with a quick turnaround during their meetings. The standard Salesforce Sales Cloud navigation turned out to be time consuming during these crucial minutes and also, it wasn’t able to provide a personalized touch.
What?
The push was to reduce the number of clicks and let the FSMs focus on the business sales functions to make the deal signing process simple to significantly boost on-the-go productivity.
How?
Had chats with Sales Executives and RSMs to understand the problems better and also, went on couple of actual Sales meetings to understand everything from pitch to deal signing.
Result
A customized iPhone & iPad friendly Sales Application tailored for the Business built on LWC. On the customized home screen, FSMs have a clear view of their pipeline, the quarterly targets they need to achieve and other business functions that promotes engagement. Easy navigation leads them to customized list views with single page tree grid views of Opportunities and the associated quotes, a customized calendar(FullCalendarJS) to keep track of and update their meetings all on the same page.
